My Trip to the UK, October 2010: Day Six

London

On Wednesday, we had a tour set up as part of the vacation package. We took the train over to what we thought was the right station (Victoria), but then got lost and had to grab a taxi to the building. I took several pictures out of the bus window as we passed various places.

Westminster Abbey, the Houses of Parliament, and Big Ben.

A statue, and the London Eye across the Thames.

The Theatre Royal on Drury Lane, where Oliver! is currently playing.

St. Paul's Cathedral. We didn't have much time here, and we weren't allowed to take pictures inside.

A reproduction of a statue of Queen Anne, outside St. Paul's.

An appropriately-named pub by the Tower of London.

Our first view of the Tower (or rather, the castle encompassing the Tower).

Tower Bridge!

Across and further down the Thames.

Inside the Tower, at the Traitor's Gate. You can guess who left through here, and how.

The Bloody Tower. This is where the ravens stay, though we didn't see them.

The inner courtyard.

This is where the Crown Jewels are kept. No pictures inside, obviously (though that didn't stop some very rude French girls from taking some anyway).

The White Tower, from where the Tower gets its name.

Heading out.

Trebuchet!

This very bold pigeon ended up getting the crumbs of a cookie Mom had in her purse.

Waiting for the waterbus, a shot of the Tower from the river.

From the waterbus: the Millenium Bridge (a/k/a the Wibbly-Wobbly Bridge), and Cleopatra's Needle.

The London Eye!

That's Charing Cross Station in the center.

Looking eastward over London.

Charing Cross again.

Northward to St. Paul's Cathedral and the KE Swiss Tower.

Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament.

Looking south over the Thames.

From the Eye, we took a taxi back to our hotel. On the way, we passed Buckingham Palace, and I took several shots from the cab window. The second picture is a blurred cyclist outside the gates of St. James Park.
