My Trip to the UK, October 2010: Day Four

Cardiff to Salisbury

On Monday, we departed from Cardiff to make our way to Salisbury, the goal being to see Stonehenge that day. First, though, we had to locate an Asda (surprisingly difficult), and then had to spend another hour shopping for food we didn't need. This cracked me up, though:

Once we got some of the purchases boxed up and sent off (60 pounds for shipping a 6-kilo box, apparently by dogsled), we started out. Well, sort of. We got past Bristol and stopped in, I think, Chippenham, where we had lunch at this pub, the Brunel.

And I had to take a picture of the coffee mug because I'm such a Who nerd.

We picked up a few things at a drug store and then headed back to the car, where we proceeded to become very, very lost. We also drove under this archway several times.

This was the river through Chippenham. Very pretty.

Eventually we managed to get back to the road we needed to be on, and at some point we stopped to take pictures of the countryside.

And when we finally arrived at Stonehenge, after a rather harrowing drive down a narrow (but distressingly busy) two-lane road, it was far too late to do anything but look from the fence.

So we found a Holiday Inn Express and had dinner at a place called the Harvester. And we slept.
